Greetings! We're the Girnary-Moon family, a lively bunch of five. Our team includes Safi, our adventurous 7-year-old, Ayden, the playful 4-year-old, and, of course, our adorable Chipompoo (a mix of Chihuahua, Pomeranian, and Poodle), Rosie. Despite being a boy, we affectionately refer to Rosie as "she" because she won our hearts at the shelter, fulfilling Safi's wish for a girl dog. We're reaching out as we embark on a trip and would love your help in caring for Rosie. Your kindness means the world to us! Additionally, Safi loves going to the dog park to play with other dogs and would relish the opportunity to host other dogs whenever possible. Safi dreams of one day becoming a dog sitter! Warm regards, Seo, Hussein, Safi, Ayden and Rosie

Rumi

Orinda, CA

  Breed: Golden Retriever

  Weight: 70 lbs

  Age: 7 years old

  Gender: Male

He's the SWEETEST! he loves all people- kids, toddlers, babies. He likes other animals too - cats, other dogs etc... He does shed but I'll make sure he's been cleaned and combed before coming to your home. He's not allowed on furniture at our home but I have heard that if you'll allow it, he will do it 😉 because he likes to snuggle. But he would never do it without being explicitly promoted to do so. He's totally gentle and doesn't really bark and he definitely doesn't chew up anything. In the past, 3 separate coworkers have watched him and all three have asked for the breeders name because of how well behaved he is. Both his mom and dad were trained emotional support dogs and he's definitely been bred to do the same.

Charlotte

Orinda, CA

  Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier

  Weight: 70 lbs

  Age: 12 years old

  Gender: Female

Charlotte is a Covid rescue from UC Davis Vet school where she loyally served as a lab dog for first year students studying anatomy. She has a super mellow temperament, knows lots of commands, loves to cuddle after dinner and plays tugowar when she’s happy. She prefers people to dogs but that’s bc she figured out they hold the treats! She’s on the older side (about 10 y.o.) and starting to show some arthritis in the back hips but she still loves her afternoon walks to satisfy her favorite thing in the world - sniffing!

Charlie

Orinda, CA

  Breed: Shih-Poo

  Weight: 20 lbs

  Age: 10 years old

  Gender: Male

Charlie is a snuggler! He loves belly rubs and loves to play ball. Charlie has a great temperament (ok maybe I’m biased) and lots of fun but he is totally content chilling with you. As a shih-poo he can be expressive and vocal when he has his mind on something - usually it’s a cue that it’s dinner time 😹 Charlie tends to get excited when watching TV especially if there are animals on TV. We sometimes have to separate him from the room if he gets to anxious with the TV on. Also, Charlie has an autoimmune disease that prevents him from receiving all vaccines (this is vet recommended and a contributing factor to why we only board at peoples homes and not at a boarding center). Charlie is not crated and makes himself at home wherever he is. In our home, he is not restricted and has free rein except on the new furniture. He likes to snuggle, friendly with all humans and loves attention. Currently Charlie is on a special diet. I make his food for him and he gets fed 4 small meals a day. Although depending on schedules we sometimes only feed him 3 meals. Meal 1: 7-8a Meal 2: 1-3p Meal 3: 5-6p Meal 4: 7-9p We usually let him out after each meal. He is fine staying at home a full work day without going out for a bathroom break. He’s pretty go with the flow.

Charlie

Orinda, CA

  Breed: Havanese

  Weight: 15 lbs

  Age: 3 years old

  Gender: Male

Charlie is a super friendly, fun, smart little guy! He loves children and other dogs around his size or a little larger. He’s completely potty trained - he either goes to the door and gives you a look 😂 or rings his bell on the doorknob when he has to go. He sleeps like a dream in his pen (not crate). His personality is pretty calm since he turned two and he enjoys cuddles on the couch and lounging in my office while I work from home. He LOVES to be outside more than anything. We brought Charlie home during the pandemic and then my husband retired and my adult son moved in with us after college so Charlie is a little bit spoiled with constant company and doesn’t like being alone. Charlie would love a busy house with kids or someone who is retired or works from home. We are particularly interested in people who would be able to watch Charlie if we want to go out for several hours during the day or evening. My husband has allergies so we need to host a non-shedding dog and prefer a dog around the same size or a little larger. We have a fenced backyard but there is a small area that a larger dog could easily jump over so our house wouldn’t work well for “jumpers.” Looking forward to making some new human and doggie friends.

Dodi

Orinda, CA

  Breed: Maltipoo

  Weight: 5 lbs

  Age: 3 years old

  Gender: Male

Hi! My Maltipoo (Dodi) is a playful fellow who enjoys hanging out with other littles. He can be a little vocal, especially when he gets over excited on first meeting, but is generally just a sweet little guy who wants to play. We'll be happy to host your little. I work from home with my 7-lb guard dog always nearby, taking frequent breaks out on our large deck. We usually take one short walk a day since running around and fetch inside the house seems to give him enough exercise. We look forward to meeting!

Bear

Orinda, CA

  Breed: Miniature Poodle

  Weight: 15 lbs

  Age: 12 years old

  Gender: Male

Hello, we are a family of 5, including 2 young children and Bear, our sweet, older mini poodle. Bear is about 15 pounds and low maintenance--he mostly likes to snuggle and sleep. He does not shed. While he's generally very lowkey and does well with our kids, a household with young children or large dogs may not be best for him. We have a large deck and fenced yard and take Bear for short walks around the neighborhood twice a day. We're happy to host dogs that will do well with Bear and with kids, and non-shedding dogs like Bear are preferred due to a family member's allergies. One or both of us is home every day.

Ruby

Orinda, CA

  Breed: Golden Retriever

  Weight: 35 lbs

  Age: 9 years old

  Gender: Female

We are a dog loving family of 4 where both adults work from home the majority of the time. Our dog, Ruby, is a miniature Golden Retriever, and loves to be with her people! She can usually be heard by my teammates over Zoom snoring under my desk during the day and following my every move 😆. And if you happen to sing opera.. she will sing along with you. 🎶 Ruby loves other non-aggressive dogs but doesn’t have much experience around cats. She doesn’t require a daily walk as long as she gets some play time in, but will gladly join you for any walks as well! Ruby is incredibly sweet and will greet you each morning as if she hasn’t seen you in months (as well as anyone who comes to your house because they are sure to be her bestie.) She’s not an active barker - however she is vocal. She will greet you loudly when she sees you, let you know how she feels, give you lots of love, and then will chill. She sleeps in her crate nightly. She is very special!

  Gender: Female

Lucky is an almost 4 year old mini golden doodle . She is very friendly and gets along with dogs similar sized . She also LOVES humans. She does get very excited upon meeting a new person and may jump up on you despite us trying to train her out of it. Luckily she is only 15 lbs but I do keep an eye on her especially with really little kids so they do not get knocked down by her enthusiasm! She will quickly calm down once she has been able to greet someone. She also does not sleep in a crate at night but will happily sleep on the floor in her bed.

Peanut

Orinda, CA

  Breed: Shih Tsu

  Weight: 15 lbs

  Age: 3 years old

  Gender: Female

We are 2 retired people, at home most of the time. I am allergic, so can only host dogs that do not shed. I happily seek swap arrangements with compatible partners, female dogs only, and under 30 lbs. Peanut is a 12 lb 3 year old (born in 2020) shih tsu/poodle mix, placid, playful, spayed, trained, with a submissive personality. I prefer dogs in her size range. We live at the end of a cul de sac in Orinda, with a fenced back deck, no grass, wood and concrete, the full length of the property and wraps around. We have a swimming pool that is not fenced in. She can get plenty of exercise just chasing a ball in the yard. We walk her in the street, so she is used to going on macadam. She goes almost immediately when she is taken on walks for business, so she is VERY easy to walk. We take her at around 7-8am, at 12-1pm, again at 5-6pm, and before we go to bed 10pm-11pm. She lets you know if she needs to go out at other times. As she gets older, I find that 3 walks per day are sufficient. We often take a midday walk for exercise, but it is not essential daily. We feed her kibble with some enticement twice a day. She sleeps in our bed. She can sleep anywhere you want, but I advise it to be in your room to minimize her anxiety. We will provide the case she can use with the door open as a bed as well. She is an easy guest. She has a pin in her right front leg from a puppy injury, so she has to be handled with that awareness, so the leg is not aggravated. I have 2 grandchildren, age 5 and 8 in 2024, who come to visit on occasion. Their dog, a 10+ year old poodle mix comes at times also.

Hi all, our sweet boy Mars is a 6 months old goldendoodle, about 47 lbs and a total sweetheart. He’s house trained, potty trained, and crate trained. We don’t allow him on any furniture at home. During the day I crate him for up to 5 hours and he also sleeps in his crate all night. He loves people and kids! He’s never been to a dog park, but he loves the other dogs in our neighborhood. I don’t think he’s ever seen a cat! He’s the opposite of aggressive- a somewhat cautious and sweet guy, loves kids, and fully understands and obeys “no”. We live in Orinda in the east bay and will be happy to return the favor and watch your sweet one when you’re out too!

Denali

Orinda, CA

  Breed: Labradoodle

  Weight: 25 lbs

  Age: 4 years old

  Gender: Male

Denali loves all humans and thinks he is a puppy. He loves dogs too. And plays well with big dogs, too. We are looking to explore potential vacation swaps if the doggies get along and if we both think its a good fit for our dogs. We live in Orinda and have a safe fenced yard (and pool!) - and prefer someone close if possible. We could use a swap over Memorial Day weekend but that may be too soon. Denali is very sweet. Sleeps most of the day. But can get excited when he sees his favorite people and dogs for sure! He rarely barks, is potty trained, likes to fetch, and usually sleeps at the floor by our bed (but can sleep in a crate too) Please reach out if you think this may be a good fit for you.

Leo

Orinda, CA

  Breed: Cockapoo

  Weight: 10 lbs

  Age: 11 years old

  Gender: Male

We are an empty nester couple with a sweet older small dog who is fully house trained and sleeps in a dog bed at night. Leo is very friendly with strangers and loves most dogs his size (he can get anxious around large dogs). We take him for a long walk every morning and he sleeps most of the day near us while we work from home. Our dog has a back problem and needs meds mixed with his food. Because of his back, the vet has banned him from stairs, so hosting him will be much easier for someone with a one-story house. 😊 We would enjoy hosting a dog (or two) up to 25 pounds with a mellow personality. We are glad to accommodate medications, special foods, crates, and other issues that come along with older doggies. 😃

Radhika Bhalla

Orinda, CA

  Breed: Australian Labradoodle

  Weight: 30 lbs

  Age: 5 years old

  Gender: Male

I live in Orinda with my husband Manik and our doodle Frisco. While we don’t have a fenced backyard (yet), there is ample room for indoor play. And we often go for hikes in the Wilder area or to play in the Wilder Fields. We’ll take care of your fur baby like our own. On that note, Frisco is a pretty chill dog who gets along with humans and other dogs. The two things you need to know before you agree to take care of him: - He has a sensitive stomach and is on a vet prescribed diet. Preparing his meals can be an involved process - mixing dry and wet food; and then coaxing him to eat! - He loves sleeping on the bed (and on the couch during the day). He will ask for permission though. And he will listen to you, but he won’t stop trying. Other than that, he is mostly energetic in the evenings when 30-45 minutes of fetch and some tug-of-war is all he needs to be happy.

Paul and Naomi live in Orinda with our teenage son and dog, Cali. We love the area, hiking, exploring, traveling and going to Tahoe! Cali is an adorable 13lb poodle mix rescue who is 5years old and just as sweet as can be. She doesn’t shed and loves to cuddle and kiss. She is active (can do long hikes, climb rocks or just be let out to go potty if time is limited) and also loves to relax and just sit on her favorite blanket. She has never met anyone she doesn’t love … and the feeling is seemingly mutual. She gets along well with other small dogs and medium or large friendly dogs, both younger and older. Maybe because she was rescued from the streets of Tracy, she doesn’t realize she is little and will act like she’s big … and some other dogs believe her and other just walk on by. She sleeps on our bed, but is likely fine on her blanket on a dog bed or couch, as well (she basically rejected being crated around the time the pandemic started and we were fine with it).

Is Dog Boarding Good For Your Dog? Why Are Dogs Happier Staying With A Family Than Dog Boarding?

Many dog owners wonder whether boarding is the right choice for their furry companions. While professional facilities can provide adequate care, dogs often thrive in a home-like environment. Here's why dogs are generally happier staying with a family rather than traditional boarding:

Personalized Attention

In a family setting, your dog receives one-on-one care, affection, and personalized attention, which can reduce stress and anxiety.

Familiar Surroundings

Staying in a home environment with familiar sights, sounds, and smells helps dogs feel more comfortable and secure.

Socialization

Dog boarding communities offer opportunities for socialization, promoting positive behavior and interaction with other dogs.

Less Stress

Being in a home or small-group setting can be less overwhelming for dogs, especially if they are shy or easily stressed.

How To Ensure My Dog Gets Enough Exercise During Boarding?

During your dog's boarding stay, it's essential to ensure they receive enough exercise to stay happy and healthy. Here are some tips to guarantee your pup stays active and engaged:

  1. Provide Exercise Instructions: Clearly communicate your dog's exercise needs and routines to the hosting family or facility.
  2. Include Favorite Toys: Pack your dog's favorite toys for playtime and mental stimulation.
  3. Outdoor Activities: If your dog enjoys outdoor activities, mention it to the host family, and ask if they can take your dog for walks or play in the yard.
  4. Ask About Daily Walks: Check with the boarding service if they provide daily walks or exercise sessions.
  5. Interactive Play: Suggest interactive play sessions, such as fetch or tug-of-war, to keep your dog physically active.

Can I Request Updates Or Photos Of My Dog During Their Stay?

Absolutely! Many dog boarding services understand how important it is to keep you updated on your furry friend. Here's what you can do:

  • Communicate Your Preference: Inform the hosting family or facility that you would appreciate updates and photos during your dog's stay.
  • Set Up Communication: Provide your contact information and discuss how often you'd like to receive updates.
  • Request Photo Sharing: If the service uses social media or messaging apps, ask if they can share pictures of your dog having fun.

What If My Dog Doesn't Get Along With The Host Family's Pets?

If your dog isn't comfortable around other pets, it's crucial to address this concern beforehand:

  • Inform the Boarding Service: Let the hosting family or facility know about your dog's behavior around other animals.
  • Ask About Separation: Check if they can accommodate separate play or living areas for your dog if needed.
  • Consider Home Boarding: If your dog prefers a pet-free environment, opt for home boarding with no other pets.

Any Size Or Breed Restrictions For Dog Boarding Community?

Most dog boarding communities are open to various sizes and breeds, but it's essential to check specific requirements:

  • Inquire About Policies: Ask the boarding community if they have any size or breed restrictions.
  • Consider Your Dog's Compatibility: Assess if your dog will get along well with other dogs in the community.
  • Check for Special Needs: If your dog has special needs, ensure the community can accommodate them.

How Early Should I Book My Dog's Boarding Stay, Especially During Peak Seasons?

Booking early is crucial, especially during peak vacation seasons when demand is high:

  • Plan Ahead: Aim to book your dog's boarding stay at least 4-6 weeks in advance, especially for popular services.
  • Holiday Seasons: For holidays or peak travel times, consider booking even earlier, up to 2-3 months ahead.
  • Confirm Reservations: Always confirm your booking and any special instructions closer to the boarding date.
