It’s Scouts world and we all just live in it! With a cute face like hers it’s hard to deny her anything. My partner Charlie and I adopted Scout in December 2023. We’ve been happy dog parents ever since! Scout spends her days napping while she waits for her mid day dog walker, or pawrents to come home. When they are she loves her walks around town and adventures to the dog park where she gets to play with all her friends. She’s all about the chase, playing with others with her paws, and giving those friendly play nips!

Ida
Berkeley, CABreed: West Highland White Terrier
Weight: 25 lbs
Age: 3 years old
Gender: Female
My dog is an often playful 3 yr old. She's a mutt--definitely part lap dog--she'll sleep most of the day and gets very tired at night. Her main vice is barking at delivery people, but she didn't do this when she was being dog sat last summer. My family is a dog-loving 10 yr old and husband. Our dog has a dog door and is used to accessing the backyard when she wants too--I'm home most of the day. We also walk her a couple times a day. I'm interested in exchanging occasional dog sitting with another local family who has a similar dog. My hope is that this would be a fun experience for both dogs. We don't travel much, but it would be nice to travel a bit more without scrambling for dog care. There's usually a week-long trip at some point in the summer and it might be nice to add very occasional weekends or 2-3 day periods. Our preference is to travel with Ida, but it's so much easier to find hotels without her.
Beau & Pinot
Berkeley, CABreed: French Bulldog
Weight: 30 lbs
Age: 4 years old
Gender: Male
Breed: Dachshund
Weight: 15 lbs
Age: 14 years old
Gender: Female
Hi! We’re Berkeley residents with 2 pups! Beau is a French bulldog who likes to go on walks every day. He also loves to play with balls. He is medium energy and a ton of fun. Pinot is our sweet old dachshund Chihuahua mix mutt. She is blind and mostly deaf now, and spends 90% of her time sleeping. She enjoys a good sniff in the grass or a short amount of time outdoors. As hosts your dog would have a fun playmate in Beau and a snuggle buddy in Pinot. I walk Beau every day for 4 to 5 miles and your dog would be more than welcome to join. We’re mainly looking for one night or weekend swaps where your dog can stay at our place and our dogs can stay with you for one night.

Tupelo
Berkeley, CABreed: Chihuahua
Weight: 25 lbs
Age: 12 years old

Hi! Tupelo is a great and super low key low maintenance dog. He does need two 15-30 minute walks per day but then sleeps or is otherwise mellow the rest of the day. He gets along with small kids, cats, and other dogs— if they’re puppies, he needs a bit of introduction time but he’s never bit another dog or human.

Binx is a very friendly and sweet dog adopted after he was found in an orchard. He is 100% potty trained at our house. He loves people though it takes him some minutes to warm up to strangers. He has never hurt a person or animal that we know of. He loves kids if they are gentle and safe with him. He loves walks. He gets car sick on long rides. He barely sheds, and it is not zero shedding. He is often very popular when we’re out.

Fergus
Berkeley, CABreed: Cairn Terrier
Weight: 10 lbs
Age: 16 years old
Gender: Male
Welcome to our home! We (2 grown ups, one 9 year old child, one small elderly dog) live in West Berkeley and are happy to host! We love dogs, have a fenced backyard (and dog door), and can commit to talking dogs for at least one small walk/day. Our dog Fergus is an incredibly sweet old man. He is living out his golden years napping in the sun, soliciting snuggles, and going for little walks. He still has pep in his step and a sparkle in his eyes. He tends to pretty much ignore other dogs, and does best with dogs who are not too demandingly playful.

Freddie
Berkeley, CABreed: Rat Terrier
Weight: 10 lbs
Age: 2 years old
Gender: Male
Hi! We live in Berkeley in a home with a great fenced in backyard and a dog door. I actually board dogs on the side, but honestly can’t afford to have my two small rat terriers boarded while we go out of town. We travel just a few times a year, and usually for under a week each time. Every few years we’ll go somewhere for two weeks. Freddie is a rescue. He gets along very well with other small dogs. He’s a nervous guy at first, but quickly warms up after a proper introduction. He’s a sweet boy. Loves toys, treats, adores our older terrier, Jordan. Happy to give more info if needed

Berkeley, CABreed: Australian Labradoodle
Weight: 25 lbs
Age: 1 year old
Gender: Female
Lucy loves to go on walks and play fetch. She's great with kids and other dogs. We're also happy to host, but have 2 small children so your pup would need to be good with kids. We both work from home, have a fenced yard and go on lots of walks.
Lupe
Berkeley, CABreed: Lab Boxer Pit Mix (?) shelter doggy!
Weight: 55 lbs
Age: 3 years old
Gender: Female
Me and Lupe live in Berkeley! She loves to play, doesn’t share toys very well so a toy free environment or a pup who is willing to share everything with her (she’s a Queen) is a good fit. No kids for Lupe they make her very uncomfortable. We’ve fostered together over 15 dogs in our home. Lupe is medium to high energy outside of the house. Inside when left alone she pretty much just naps. But make sure you hide your trash can or don’t leave any food out. I always tell her that her nose gets her in trouble lol She’s a happy doggy loves all dogs and but can be a bit scared of new people at first but she warms up quickly❤️ Lupe is a rescue pup from the shelter we volunteer at. I got her at 10 months old so her past is a mystery to me. Lupe loves to run! She’s like to wrestle and play chase. She’s very playful! She’s lived with a cat before but she will be tempted to chase them if she seems them running by. She thinks they’re her friends but most of the cats she’s lived with haven’t liked her haha Our daily routine is a walk in the morning and big walk at night. We have a dog park and park nearby we like to visit when it’s not too crowded. Lots of nice walking areas and Albany Bulb, Cesar Chavez and Aquatic park are close by too and we like to visit those. We welcome dog friends who are potty trained / vaccinated / spay / neutered. Must be able to hold potty time up to 8 hrs as I work a couple long days during the week
Waffles
Berkeley, CABreed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Weight: 20 lbs
Age: 6 years old
Gender: Male

Augie
Berkeley, CABreed: Australian Labradoodle
Weight: 30 lbs
Age: 2 years old
Gender: Male
We are a family of 4, including Augie of course! Augie is a mini Australian Labradoodle, born in June 2021. He is very sweet and playful with people and other dogs and loves playing fetch. He can be a little timid at first but warms up quickly. He loves to play with other dogs, with a preference for one on one play. We usually take him to a field to play fetch, but he also likes walks. Once upon a time, he was crate trained, but now sleeps on the bed. We both work from home, but can leave him alone at the house for up to 4-5 hours. We are hoping to find other dog families to vacation swap.
Luna
Berkeley, CABreed: Goldendoodle
Weight: 40 lbs
Age: 3 years old
Gender: Female
Luna is a 40lb mini golden doodle. She LOVES people and is very well trained - walks off leash with me all the time and listens well. She likes playing with other dogs and especially with balls. A terrific hiker as well and swimmer. We have a 13 year old and are open to dog vacation swap as well as regular or occasional play dates with nearby dogs. I work from home and can arrange daytime play dates for Luna.
Luna
Berkeley, CABreed: Goldendoodle
Weight: 30 lbs
Age: 3 years old
Gender: Female
Prefer similar sized, nonshedding dogs for hosting. Luna loves friends, especially other doodles. She has a lot of energy (but really spends most of the day sleeping). We take her for 2 45-minute walks daily. She is not crate trained but used to being in a restricted area when we are gone and at night. She doesn’t chew furniture or shoes, but socks are her kryptonite. She is allowed on furniture except our bed. We have a small front yard; we only have dogs out there with supervision. We work from home most days. Luna has not had a lot of experience with little kids. She does get super excited about my teens littler friends and especially likes to jump on then. Hence the not sure on how she is with kids!

Choosing The Right Dog Boarding Facility In Berkeley, CA
When it comes to choosing the perfect dog boarding facility in Berkeley, CA, there are several factors to consider. Ensuring your furry friend's safety, comfort, and happiness is paramount. Here's a guide to help you make the right choice:
Location Matters
Select a boarding facility that is conveniently located to minimize stress for both you and your dog during drop-off and pick-up.
Services Offered
Different facilities offer various services, such as playtime, grooming, and training. Choose one that aligns with your dog's needs and preferences.
Facility Tour
Visit the facility beforehand to assess its cleanliness, safety measures, and overall environment. Trust your instincts about the facility's atmosphere.
Reviews And Reputation
Read reviews from other dog owners who have used the facility. Positive testimonials and a solid reputation are indicators of a trustworthy boarding provider.
Staff Qualifications
Inquire about the qualifications and training of the staff who will be caring for your dog. Experienced and knowledgeable caregivers can make a significant difference.
Compatibility With Your Dog
Some facilities conduct temperament assessments to ensure your dog is placed in a suitable social group. This is especially important if your dog is sociable or shy.
Tips For A Smooth Transition To Dog Boarding
Preparing your dog for their boarding experience can make all the difference in their comfort level. Here are some tips to ensure a smooth transition:
- Gradual Introduction: If possible, schedule a few short visits to the facility before the actual boarding. This allows your dog to become familiar with the environment and staff.
- Bring Familiar Items: Pack your dog's favorite toys, bedding, and even an article of clothing that carries your scent. Familiar scents can provide comfort during the stay.
- Maintain Routine: Provide the facility with your dog's regular feeding schedule and any specific care instructions to help maintain their routine.
- Positive Goodbyes: When dropping off your dog, stay calm and positive. Dogs can sense your emotions, so a cheerful farewell can help ease their anxiety.
Keeping Your Dog Healthy And Happy During Boarding
Ensuring your dog's well-being while they're in boarding is crucial. Follow these tips to keep them healthy and happy:
Healthy Diet
Provide the boarding facility with your dog's regular food to avoid digestive issues. Include feeding instructions and any dietary restrictions.
Medications
If your dog requires medication, provide clear instructions and enough medication for the entire stay.
Exercise And Play
Inquire about the amount of exercise and playtime your dog will receive. Regular activity helps reduce stress and keeps your dog engaged.
Communication
Keep lines of communication open with the caregivers. Inform them of any behavioral changes, preferences, or concerns your dog might have.
What To Expect During The Check-In And Check-Out Process
Understanding the check-in and check-out procedures at your chosen dog boarding facility streamlines the process. Here's what to expect:
- Documentation: Be prepared to provide your dog's vaccination records, emergency contact information, and any specific care instructions.
- Initial Assessment: The facility might conduct a brief assessment of your dog's behavior to ensure they are placed in an appropriate group.
- Settling In: During check-in, you'll introduce your dog to their temporary home and the caregivers. This is a chance to reassure your dog and address any concerns.
