Moxie

Albany, CA

  Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier

  Weight: 55 lbs

  Age: 9 years old

  Gender: Female

We are a family of 5 that includes two silly and kind young ones and a middle-aged pitbull who is a real companion dog; we are looking for other families who are a good match for the occasional trip that Moxie can't come along for. Her happy space is being part of the pack and having someone to be with all day. One of us works from home and gives her one long walk daily, and a shorter one in the evening. One member of our family has experienced anxiety around dog attacks in the past, so a graduated greeting process is helpful to us.

Stella

Albany, CA

  Breed: Labrador Retriever

  Weight: 55 lbs

  Age: 12 years old

  Gender: Female

11 year old black lab, Stella. She is has no aggression issues on or off leash. Walks well and prefers leash on walks on sidewalks or at parks. She enjoys a walk, no matter how short. She is not keen on stairs and uses a ramp to enter my house and get into my car. She has had all her shots, is chipped and is spayed. Stella was a breeder dog before her retirement to me and as result she is very fond of all puppies (and human children). She does not chase balls, sticks, squirrels, ducks, rabbits or cats. My yard is fenced and I have a small deck for dog sunning. She sleeps on her bed and is not allowed on furniture. Crate trained but I don't use much in my house. She is on a restricted diet. I am a very experienced lab and golden owner 50+ years. I do have knee issues so my dog walks are slow but often. She is fine without a walk but does enjoy human company on a stroll.

Daisy

Albany, CA

  Breed: Mixed Breed

  Weight: 30 lbs

  Age: 4 years old

  Gender: Female

Hi fellow dog friends! My husband and I travel several times a year and would love to share our dog with you and vice versa! Daisy is a fun loving dog who has a spunky spirit and positive energy. She loves other dogs, people and children. She likes walks, trips to the park and hanging with other dogs. We allow Daisy to be on our couch so she can watch life pass her by on the front sidewalk. But she has her special blanket on the couch and it’s the only furniture she is allowed on. Except she sleeps on top of our bed in her own blanket. She will stay in her bed on the ground when she visits other homes. She needs to wear a bark collar as she tends to bark at squirrels, new people and dogs at the local park. But once she meets them, she is fine. She is not an aggressive dog and uses licks when she likes humans and other dogs!

Trillian

Albany, CA

  Breed: Formosan Mountain Dog

  Weight: 25 lbs

  Age: 12 years old

  Gender: Female

We live in Albany with our 25 lbs dog Trillian, (Trill for short). She's named for a character in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. At 11 years old, Trill is a fit senior dog. She loves to walk and hike, and typically likes meeting other dogs, both big and small. While she isn't cuddly, she rarely barks and is easy to get along with. Unfortunately, with age she has epilepsy and allergies and takes medication 2x's daily. The epilepsy is 100% controlled by meds. The toughest thing is that she coughs and sneezes several times a day, so perhaps we could trade with another dog with a few medical needs. A bit more about her personality: She's more of a dog - dog. With people she's tends to be more aloof.

Zoe

Albany, CA

  Breed: Formosan Mountain Dog

  Weight: 35 lbs

  Age: 6 years old

  Gender: Female

Family of 4 with a 5 yo formosan mountain dog. Zoe is a bit skittish around new people, but usually warms up. She enjoys bird watching, insect hunting and running around albany bulb. If we're hosting, we'd prefer a dog that is kid-friendly with no bite / nipping history.

Understanding these options is crucial in making an informed decision that aligns with your dog's specific needs and your peace of mind.

Traditional Kennels: A Tried-And-True Option

Traditional kennels, known for their reliability and safety, have been a go-to solution for pet owners for years. These facilities provide a structured and secure environment where your dog can reside while you're away. In-Home Boarding: A Comfortable, Familiar Setting

In-home boarding provides an alternative to the more conventional kennel experience. In this arrangement, trusted caregivers open their homes to your furry friend, ensuring that your dog can remain in a comfortable and familiar environment. Is Dog Boarding Good For Your Dog?

Ensuring the well-being and happiness of your furry friend is paramount. Many dog owners understandably ponder whether boarding is genuinely beneficial for their beloved pets. The answer is affirmative, provided that the chosen facility or community adheres to a set of key criteria to guarantee your dog's comfort and safety.

Proper Supervision

Adequate supervision is critical to ensure that your dog remains safe and well cared for throughout their stay.

Socialization Opportunities

Socialization is essential for your dog's mental and emotional well-being. Boarding facilities and communities should provide opportunities for your dog to interact with others.

Clean and Safe Environment

A clean and hygienic environment is fundamental to preventing illness and discomfort.

Personalized Care

Every dog is unique, and their care should reflect this individuality. Tailored attention to your dog's specific needs is essential for their comfort and happiness.

Why Dogs Are Happier Staying With A Family Than Dog Boarding

Dogs are innately social animals that thrive on companionship and human interaction. It's no surprise, then, that many dogs are happier when they have the opportunity to stay with a family or in a community setting, as opposed to the more sterile environment of traditional boarding facilities. Here are some reasons why:

  • Individualized Attention: Dogs relish the undivided attention and affection they receive from a family or a community member.
  • Playtime and Exercise: Staying in a family environment often results in more playtime and exercise, mentally and physically stimulating your dog.
  • Homely Atmosphere: The familiar surroundings of a home or community setting can provide comfort and reduce anxiety for your dog, especially in your absence.
