Walter

Brentwood, CA

  Breed: Goldendoodle

  Weight: 20 lbs

  Age: 4 years old

  Gender: Male

We are a family of four (teenager and 4.5 year old) living in Brentwood. Our household has two cats and our mini Goldendoodle, Walter. We allow our pups on furniture and Walter sleeps on our bed. Walter is excellent about adapting to your dog's play style but doesn't like being herded. He doesn't resource guard or chew up items left on the floor. He is a bit jumpy when excited but knows his "no jumping' command. He gets a minimum of one walk in the morning and a long walk (one hour) a couple of times a week. We have a backyard with grass and often play tug/fetch. He has a soft spot for neurodivergent children and the elderly, he will soften his approach and melt into them. He is number one skill is cuddling! He's excellent around cats and kids once his initial excitement has waned (we leash him for the initial few minutes of introduction just so he doesn't knock them over trying to kiss them). As much as he likes a nice walk he is on the lazier side so he's happy to be lounging all day. We prefer to host dogs under 40lbs who don't have any prey drive (we have wild bunnies in the backyard). Crate trained preferred but not necessary if well behaved.

We are a family of 3 ( self, spouse and son ) and a visiting daughter in college who are a super caring and attentive pet owner. We are disciplined in our care and that makes it a very consistent schedule for our pets, who never have to hold their bladder or be deeply hungry ever. Though we prefer to take our pets on all our trips, we are not able to do so every time due to restrictions on air / accommodations.

Tinto

Brentwood, CA

  Breed: Bernedoodle

  Weight: 40 lbs

  Age: 2 years old

  Gender: Male

I live in Brentwood with my husband and our dog Tinto, who's our only child. He is a 4yo hypoallergenic 40lb mini-bernedoodle, who's very chill and relaxed. Tinto is very well behaved, potty trained, and gets along well with people and dogs. We work from home and have a well defined routine for our dog. We would love to host other hypoallergenic dogs similar to ours, who enjoy nice walks but aren't super active otherwise.

Is Dog Boarding Good For Your Dog?

Dog boarding can be a beneficial option for your furry companion, offering a structured and supervised environment when you're away. Professional boarding facilities provide social interaction, mental stimulation, and proper care, which can help prevent feelings of loneliness and boredom that dogs might experience when left alone for extended periods. However, the quality of the experience largely depends on the facility's standards, staff expertise, and the specific needs of your dog. It's crucial to research and select a reputable boarding facility that aligns with your pet's requirements and preferences to ensure a positive and enjoyable stay for your beloved dog.

Why Dogs Are Happier Staying With A Family Than Dog Boarding

Dogs often find greater happiness staying with a family rather than in traditional dog boarding facilities. The personalized attention, tailored care, and familiar routines provided by a family can significantly reduce stress and anxiety for your canine companion. Being in a familiar environment with trusted human companions offers a sense of security and comfort, promoting your dog's overall well-being. Moreover, the one-on-one social interaction and reduced exposure to illnesses make staying with a family a preferred choice for many dogs, ensuring a happier and more fulfilling experience during their time away from home.

Tips For Choosing The Right Dog Boarding Option

Selecting the right dog boarding option can greatly impact your pet's experience. Consider these tips to make an informed decision:

Evaluate Your Dog's Needs

Assess your dog's personality, activity level, and any special requirements they have to match them with the most suitable boarding option.

Read Reviews And Testimonials

Look for reviews and feedback from other pet owners to gauge the quality of care provided by different boarding facilities or caregivers.

Visit The Facilities

If opting for traditional boarding or doggy daycare, visit the facilities in person to check cleanliness, safety measures, and the overall environment.

Meet The Caregiver

If considering in-home boarding or pet sitting, arrange a meeting with the caregiver to ensure they're a good fit for your dog's needs.

Ask About Daily Routine

Inquire about the daily routine your dog will follow, including exercise, feeding times, and social interactions with other dogs.

Preparing Your Dog For Boarding: Dos And Don'ts

Help your furry friend have a smooth boarding experience with these preparation tips:

  • Do Familiarize Your Dog: Introduce your dog to the boarding environment or caregiver before the actual stay to alleviate fear.
  • Don't Overfeed Before Boarding: Avoid overfeeding your dog before boarding to prevent stomach discomfort or accidents.
  • Do Share Your Dog's Routine: Provide information about your dog's daily routine, dietary preferences, and any medications they need.
  • Don't Rush Goodbyes: When dropping off your dog, keep goodbyes calm and brief to prevent unnecessary anxiety.
  • Do Provide Comfort Items: Bring your dog's favorite blanket, toy, or bed to create a sense of familiarity and comfort.

Monitoring Your Dog's Well-Being During Boarding

Ensuring your dog's well-being while they're boarding is essential. Here's how to stay informed:

Regular Communication

Maintain open communication with the caregiver or facility staff to receive updates on your dog's activities and behavior.

Photo Updates

Ask for photos of your dog enjoying their time, giving you peace of mind and a glimpse into their experience.

Check-In Calls

Arrange a time to call and check on your dog, allowing you to hear their familiar bark and know they're doing well.

Emergency Contact Information

Provide multiple contact numbers in case of emergencies, ensuring prompt communication if needed.

Trust Your Gut

If you sense something isn't right or your dog seems unhappy, don't hesitate to address your concerns with the caregiver.

Making The Most Of Post-Boarding Reunion

When you're finally reunited with your furry friend, follow these tips for a smooth transition:

Gradual Reintegration

Allow your dog some time to readjust to their home environment and routine gradually.

Plenty Of Love

Shower your dog with affection and attention to reassure them after their time away.

Watch For Changes

Keep an eye out for any behavioral or health changes and consult a vet if needed.

Maintain A Routine

Stick to your dog's regular schedule to help them settle back into their daily routine.
